🇶What should I avoid both before and after a wax session?
🇦Do not exercise beforehand or 'rush' to your appointment. Refrain from taking a bath however a warm shower, the same morning, is essential. Put Swimming, Sauna, Sunbathing, Sunbed, Sex, Cycling, Jacuzzi etc 'off' until another day! Essentially avoid participating in any activity that makes you perspire or increases your heart rate including caffeine and alcohol.
🇶Do I need a Skin Test?
🇦If you suffer allergies to sticking plaster we recommend you pop in for a pre-wax patch test. If you've never experienced a wax procedure, our LINK
will redirect you to a straightforward safety checklist that will put your mind at ease. The link shall take you away from this page so don't click on it until you have read all the following information ...
🇶I'm concerned about cross infection during waxing
🇦Lerage therapists are happy to explain their Fresh-Wax system and dispel any fear you may have of cross-contamination. Unlike some salons, we never double dip so the wax applied to your skin contains no one else's bacteria or skin cells. Neither do we use the uncomfortable 'roller method'. Non-strip - hot wax is available upon request at a 33% higher rate
🇶How old must I be to receive a wax treatment?
🇦You must be able to prove you are 17+ or attend with a responsible adult relative if you are 12 - 16 years of age
🇶Is waxing uncomfortable?
🇦Our courteous, gentle and highly experienced waxperts remove unwanted hair quicker and more painlessly than general beauty therapists simply because we perform wax procedures ALL day EVERY day
Of course the sudden extraction of a large amount of hair from its follicles is not pain-free and some clients have a higher pain threshold than others however the end result is worth any discomfort and many clients re-book their next session before leaving the salon!
If, at any stage during the procedure, you feel the discomfort is more than you can tolerate, let us know because we'll happily end your session. Your Therapist will always respect your decision and cease treatment immediately. You may be charged proportionally. Anti-anxiety capsules, taken as directed and in advance, are reported to aid calmness during the procedure
We recommend, however, that you anticipate a little discomfort so that you deal with this new experience in a calm way.
It is wise to listen to, and follow, your Therapists instructions throughout your session as failure to do so may result in bruising and additional discomfort.
You may be asked to participate in the procedure by stretching the skin in certain directions but you will always be expected to remain still whilst the wax is being removed. Wriggling causes bruising and entirely self inflicted!
Keep in mind that frequent sessions reduce anxiety making subsequent treatments more tolerable ...
🇶Will the waxed area feel sore after treatment?
🇦Warmth and slight tenderness will ensue plus pores will remain raised and pink for a short period
On occasion, and without reason, excess superficial skin cells are removed resulting in prolonged tenderness. In this instance, extra aftercare is recommended and should be continued until the area has returned to it's regular colour, texture, sensitivity and temperature
Any normal reaction subsides within a few hours however improper aftercare may extend the period of recovery and even trigger an adverse reaction
Aftercare includes keeping the area cool AND protected.
Avoid skincare products besides those similar to the cream applied directly after treatment
Pre-worn clothing can irritate the skin so it's important to bring along 'fresh cotton' garments to wear immediately after your session
Avoid friction and exposure to unclean environments, If you have received intimate waxing it's crucial you gently but avidly cleanse the area after using the toilet and avoid sex until the area has normalised
Avoid swiming in chlorinated or sea water
Aftercare lotion is available to purchase and should be applied throughout the day
Those that suffer in-grown hairs can purchase a product that specifically combats the problem
🇶How long will the results last?
🇦This depends on many factors and varies - not only from person to person but from one session to the next!
You should book your follow-up session no sooner than 3-weeks later although 6-weeks offers best results
Return too soon and the smooth results shall be short-lived, Return too late and the session may be more uncomfortable than usual
Avoid epilating, trimming, shaving or the use of depilatory creams (mid appointment sessions) as regrowth will itch and feel more sharp. In particular, epilating can cause irreversible ingrown hair issues. Feel free to ask our opinion on epilators
🇶I'm male and considering an intimate wax however I'm worried my penis well erect
🇦Your waxpert is professional, experienced and understands that this can be an embarrassing response to intimate waxing. She will ignore the reaction and continue treating you unless your behaviour causes concern. You will find the discomfort and general awkwardness rapidly alleviates the situation
🇶Why would my wax therapist refuse to treat me?
1. If your hair is too short - growth should be minimum 5mm in length
Although we don't recommend trimming, if you feel the urge to reduce the length of your hair you must do so AT LEAST 7 days before your wax session. Trimming during the week of your wax session will increase discomfort due to leverage
2. If you are particularly unclean (Many clients pop in after work and this is acceptable as freshening wipes are provided) Make sure you use these wipes EFFECTIVELY in both front and back intimate areas. We do not wax areas that have not been cleansed correctly. In addition we shall not embarrass you by telling you why we have missed out certain areas! We suggest you shower in the morning and avoid cologne, deodorant, make-up and moisture lotions in areas to be waxed
3. If you show signs of suffering any contagious skin condition
4. We will refuse treatment if you have taken Roaccutane within the past 6-months or applied steroid creams within the past 3-months
5. If your skin shows signs of sunburn or is broken, weeping or chaffed
6. If you inform us you have recently sunbathed [natural or artificial] or are suffering from excess perspiration
7. If you remove any clothing that your Therapist has not requested
8. If we believe you require a pre-wax skin test or state that you have previously reacted adversely
1. If you show any disrespect or give rise for concern
2. If your pain tolerance is low and you cannot sustain further treatment
3. If your skin begins to perspire excessively
4. If the treated areas appear to react abnormally
5. If your behaviour becomes inappropriate or provocative
🇶Would I be expected to pay for a session that is terminated before completion?
🇦If your treatment has begun then the answer is "Yes" however you shall only be required to proportionately cover the costs of treated areas
🆒OTHER HELPFUL ADVICE
Attend the salon with plenty of hair growth! Don't be embarrassed with the amount of hair growth you have as it's just how we prefer you ... hairy!
Minimum 5 days growth is necessary if you have previously shaven. Waxing after shaving usually offers a clean finish albeit results are generally not smooth due to underlying stubble. 3 weeks growth is essential if you have previously waxed the area. Thereafter, repeat sessions should be considered monthly.
If necessary, it's okay to shave secondary regrowth UP TO 14 days after your wax session. Shaving after 14 days will cause your next wax session to be less effective
You must not use a sunbed or sunbathe on the same day.
Fake tan will be completely stripped away so avoid applying tanning products during the week before a wax
You must not use a sauna, jacuzzi or steam room on the same day as treatment
You should bring along unworn soft cotton, loose clothing to wear after waxing
Bathe before you arrive as you are advised not to bathe for the remainder of the day
Clients who are (or have been) using Roaccutane or steroid creams are required to inform us before booking
You shall not receive maximum benefits from treatment if the hair growth is sparse or stubbly
Regular exfoliation is recommended in areas of ingrown hairs however this must gentle and not on the day of waxing
Persons with Diabetes, Circulatory Conditions and, in particular, anyone susceptible to infection should not receive waxing as treatment can leave the skin tender and open to infection
Waxing should be avoided in areas of Varicose Veins, Moles, Warts, Scar tissue
Wax will not be applied to eyelashes, inner nose, inner ears, areola, chapped and irritated skin, sunburn or open wounds.
There are no other precautions or requirements however it is in your interest to...
Arrive cool calm & relaxed
This frame of mind certainly makes the session more comfortable for you. Stressed clients tend to perspire and wriggle about. This is a contra-indication to treatment!
Avoid stress, sex & exercising
This advice should be followed for 24 hours before and after treatment as raised body temperature is a contra-indication and can cause an adverse reaction
Follow the After Care instructions below
Keep the waxed area cool, protected & free from irritation. An Aloe Vera based lotion will be applied after your wax session and can also be purchased from your therapist
